Grade Checklists
Preparing for college can be easier than you think. The following checklists provide a guide of important activities that the student and/or parent should consider in each grade.
7th and 8th grade
Student and parents should be thinking about high school, college, and possible careers. The parent should remain engaged in the student’s progress.
Not sure how to engage with your student? Check out these resources from the U.S. Department of Education.
9th Grade
9th grade is an important year in a student’s college preparation journey. The student should have a well rounded experience in high school with parent support.
10th Grade
10th grade can be a big year for your student. It will be important to stay on the right track toward college.
If you are applying to college, you may need to take certain tests, such as the ACT or SAT. The ACT measures what you have learned in school. The SAT measures your ability rather than knowledge.

11th Grade
For both student and parents, it is crucial to stay on top of college preparation during the 11th grade year and the following summer.
12th Grade
This is the time to apply for admission to college. Students must also apply for federal financial aid regardless of income levels.
Complete and submit your student’s FASFA® form as soon as possible after its October 1st release.
